Episode 1

Once Upon a time…

There is a CEO named Charlie. Charlie runs very successful mid-sized corporation, and he’s about to get some bad news.

“Charlie! Joe just came into my office this morning and presented his letter of resignation!” Exclaimed Mary, Charlie’s EVP of HR, as she rushed out of breath into the office. “He got a better offer. I didn’t want to say anything until I talked to you, so I managed to get us two days to respond. What are we going to do?”

“What!? Joe is our top performer! He manages $250 million in revenue, and he’s grown his business by 50% in the last year. We can’t lose him!” Charlie blurted in shock and surprise.

A thousand ideas and consequences raced through Charlie’s mind as he desperately tried to think of a solution. All he knew was that he had to do something to keep Joe from leaving.

Mary knew that neither she nor her CEO was in the right frame of mind at this moment to think rationally. “Charlie, we really ought to sit with this overnight and give it some good thought; perhaps talk to the other C-team members, and come back at it again tomorrow. I suggest we plan to meet here for a working lunch,” she suggested, beginning to calm down a bit.

“You read my mind, Mary. I sure am glad to have you at my back. Now don’t you go getting any bright ideas”, chuckled Charlie in response.

What’s should Charlie do?

Stay tuned for episode two next week and find out what Charlie decides to do.
